The MSSNM Melaka State Finals was held at Dewan S.K. Jasin in Jasin from Tuesday, 21st April till
Wednesday, 22nd April 2015. 6 rounds were played, players are required to make notations and 3
illegal moves losses a game (compared to just 2 moves normally).

Overall the event was well-organised over 2 days save for 2 arising issues.
The first issue involves information dissemination while the second deals with the clocks used for the competition.

After the Melaka Tengah competition in early April, it was announced that the State Finals will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, 22 - 23 April at the S.K.Jasin. However, partly due to PISA matters the organisers decided to bring the event a day forward. Unfortunately, a few schools namely the Boarding schools of MOZAC and KYS did NOT receive the information. Fortunately, KYS chess parents were aware of the date change and alerted the teacher in charge making it possible for the team to come earlier than the MOZAC team. Luck deserted the MOZAC team and by the time the players arrived for the first round, each player had less than a few minutes to play. All MOZAC players lost their first round game. I was informed on this matter by a parent who's kid is playing in the event.

2nd time in this event after the school had sent a team last year.

Apparently, many players are on the waiting list from countries such as Iran and Philippines apart from local players.

42nd Selangor Open EVENT PROSPECTUS

Just registered for the event, the last day to be entitled for the RM30 discount.

After last year's event at Wilayah Complex, the 2nd time will be taking part in the event which will be held at a new venue i.e. Kompleks Sukan Negara Kampung Pandan.

1st classical event for the year and time for some "real" chess.

I was under the impression that the State Finals for Melaka is from Wednesday till Thursday, 22nd to 23rd April 2015. However, a Melaka chess blog states that its on 21st to 22nd April making me rather confused.

Appreciate any info on this matter, Please.

UPDATED Position Categorisation by CP

In 2014 (read HERE ), CP said that being placed second and below is " Nothing but Useless "!

After the MSSWPKL State Finals his latest categorisation for placings are as follows:-

1st / CHAMPION      - Awesome!

2nd/ RUNNERS-UP  -  " Nothing but Useless ".

3rd                            -  VERY BAD.

4th                            -  UnPredictable!!!

Discharged on TUESDAY from DSH - TQVM to the Chess Community for the Prayers & Visitations

Down with dengue for more than 2 weeks and discharged from DSH on Tuesday after managing to just evade the ICU with a lowest platelet count of 19. Still recovering albeit slowly. Missed giving a Public Talk on Economics and the Constitution in Seri Menanti, N.Sembilan as well as some other events and launches to which I would like to apologise to the event organisers. Also missed were the kids' numerous activities.

I would like to take this opportunity to the chess community and friends for the "Kind Prayers Offered" and "Get Well Soon" messages.Special thanks goes to members of the chess community who had visited me in hospital led by the KLCA President, EXCO Members and chess friends who had taken the time to visit me in hospital.

Hope to recover fully by next month and resume normal activities...and a bit more!

5th and Will Be Representing MELAKA TENGAH in the State Finals at JASIN.

A blunder in the 3rd round was the difference between 5th Place and being the Champion of the MSSNM Daerah Melaka Tengah U15 Girls competition.

Despite the blunder, securing 5 points from 6 rounds was good enough for hAnA to represent the Melaka Tengah District in the Melaka State Finals in her very first attempt since switching allegiance from KL to Melaka. The irony of the matter was that for some unknown reasons, hAnA was not even listed in the KYS Team. An 'inspired' SMS from the DSH hospital bed ensured a call to the organisers for a change in the team list.

Lo and behold the state finals will be held on 22 -23 April in Jasin enabling a strong possibility of a "Balik Kampung" holiday in the middle of the week.
