Event INFO

UPDATE:
Event REPORT

Results:-
OFFICIAL
36th - 4.5pts/10, CP
38th - 4.0pts, hAnA
44th - 4.0pts, AHM

First competition for both since 9th ASCC at Sri Lanka in early-September
Hence, I'm neither pleased nor dissappointed with the results.

Truth be told this is the FIRST TIME the family is taking part in Chess Blitz in an outdoor "carnival-like" atmosphere. The outdoor atmosphere is totally different from the indoor set-up we're normally used to.

I should have listened to my own advice (Read HERE). 2 Games lost due to "Kesian / Bagi Chance factor) & 1 Game Lost coz CP disrupted play.....Aaaarggghhh!

>>>>>>>

Initially had wanted to register hAnA & CP for the Polgar 1800 rated (Event INFO) to be held this weekend in Sri Hartamas.
Main intention was to get them to get used to playing classical as preparation for 6th NJCC and WYCC 2013 respectively as there is a dearth of classical events in Malaysia.

However, was informed that the field will be too strong for CP but not for hAnA. *FIDE-ratings aside...Sibling rivalry and logistically, It doesn't make sense for me to just enter one of them for the FIDE-rated event.

Since I've not heard from the organisers re CP's participation it was a Good thing that I was alerted of the Blitz Chess Fever event in Puchong which I'd subsequently registered via fb pm to SM. Should be good practice for them as the Blitz is scheduled be held at both the 6th NJCC@JB and WYCC 2013@UAE.

Note: *Initially(NOT for this event), had wanted to get FIDE-ratings for the kids due to "cost savings".
However, was advised by many players/organisers that this shouldn't be the approach which after discussions with the parties concerned ONLY THEN did I  understand why vis-a-vis getting/starting with a low FIDE-ratings.

Eldest was not well, Iman & Adina didnt even maka the trip due to medical matters.

Apparently, the Piala Tun Razak is for both Malay and English debates. 16 schools from the South Zone took part in the Event.

hAnA is slated to take part in the National Choir Competition as part of the SKTTDI Team.
The event will be held on Wednesday, 30th November 2013 at the Auditorium DBKL 1, Kuala Lumpur.

It's good that hAnA tries other activities for a more wholesome development. Furthermore, she's concerned that she doesn't have "enough" certificates to qualify her to apply for entrance to Boarding School in 2015 to join eldest. Emmm.....beg to differ* but who knows what the selectors will be looking at end of next year!?!?
After all, eldest was fortunate that during her year - SKTTDI was the top school for UPSR results in Malaysia. Hence, more boarding school slots(incl.MRSM) were made available to the students in addition to scholarship offers from KYS and Axiata(Sri Garden) to those who aced the IQ/EQ/Entrance Examinations.

* Mental Note/Checklist for hAnA.

cHEss pIRATE is Hospitalised!

UPDATE 1:
After 3 Days & 2 Nights, CP was discharged.

On behalf of Amir Faiz, My Family & I would like to put on record our appreciation to the attending Dr I.e. Datuk Dr. Azizi and nurse/staff at the Damansara Specialist Hospital.

CP was smiling when the Nurses wished him well for future competitions.

>>>>>>>
Sometimes...or most of the times God works in mysterious ways.

I'd wanted to register the kids for the UPSI Open in Tanjung Malim, Perak but somehow or rather registration seemed to be a stumbling block. Good thing that registration was a stumbling block as I would have "lost" some RM for not turning up at UPSI Tanjung Malim.

Thursday night, after complaining of severe headache and other conditions we were advised by friends in the medical fraternity...some as far away as Kuantan to bring the CP to hospital as a precaution.

Around 11-11.30pm we brought him to the DSH in Damansara Kim for treatment and was advised that he needs to be warded after eliminating dengue as a possible cause for his severe bout of headache(s).

NATIONAL ICT SECURITY Debate Competition for the CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy - South Zone Final, RUNNERS-UP.

( Picture: Courtesy of  Lt.Col(R) Mustaffa Ahmad from Cyber Security Malaysia)

The National ICT Security Debate Competition for the CyberSAFE Challenge Trophy-South Zone Final was held in Seremban.
Kolej Tunku Kurshiah (KTK / TKC) and SDAR made the finals.

Congratulations to Amira & her team mates Iman, Adina & Maryam (all third formers) who debated against the predominantly fourth-formers of SDAR. Considering that this is your first debate after the long lay-off due to PMR, you all did well. Better save the RM100 prize money for future debate competitions.

Final/Inter-Zone Rounds will be held in Seremban from 11 to 12 November 2013. Finals on 14 November in KL.

NATIONAL RATINGS: October - December 2013

Latest National Ratings:-
hAnA, -103pts & The cHEss pIRATE, -137pts !!!

The OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2013 Malaysian National Chess ratings aka NR is available 1 day earlier than advertised i.e. 15th of every Quarter.

The NR is to be used for National-Rated competitions held in the 4th/Last Quarter of 2013 in Malaysia.

Details, can be seen HERE

Both, The cHEss pIRATE and hAnA had moved south i.e. CP by a massive 137 points and hAnA 103 points to 1215 & 1305 respectively.

COMMENTS:
There's a new registration code/reference in force.
hAnA's Reference No is MCR001310 and ranked 679 out of 3535 female players whilst CP's Reference No. is MCR 002184 and he's ranked No.6047 out of 10k male players.
My Reference No is - MCR 006923 and for doing "nothing" I'm ranked at No.3359 from around 10k players.

Under the column "Achievement since 1998"  the prefix NP(Jnr) is NOT indicated next to the kids name despite them taking part in the recent 9th ASIAN SCHOOLS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 (9th ASCC 2013) in Sri Lanka and ON National Day i.e. 31st AUGUST some more (Read HERE). I wonder why? Perhaps the 9th ASCC  is NOT an event-sanctioned by MCF or the matter was inadvertently omitted by list-preparer.

AGAIN, participation in FIDE-rated open events causes the kids especially the CP to lose substantial points.
Examples:
AMBank Challenge 2013 - hAnA @ - 85.768 / CP @ -122.39
1st Kedah Open 2013 - hAnA @ - 16.177 / CP @ -111.24
5th NATIONAL JUNIORS 2012-hAnA @ - 30.439 / CP @ - 48.0
4th Penang Heritage 2012- hAnA @ - 35.175 / CP @ - 40.0
Nf6 Juniors 2012 - hAnA @ - 28.421

Based on the info gleaned from the October-December 2013 Ratings Report, the breakdown of the points secured are from 2 events i.e. AMBank  Open(FIDE-rated)  and The Swensen's Age Group Open held in August. Other events participated in were not included as they were not NR I.e. 1st SSTwo Mall Open (where Faiz emerged champion with a Perfect Record, read HERE) & Battle Chess SelangorKU II (Stress & Sauna event, read HERE ).

Details, as follows:-

The cHEss pIRATE (-138)
--------------------------------
-122.39    AMBank Open 2013 (FIDE-rated)
-  15.561  SWENSEN's AGE GROUP Open 2013

----------
-137.9
======

hAnA (- 103)
---------------
-  85.768   AMBank Open 2013 (FIDE-rated)
-  17.38     SWENSEN's AGE GROUP Open 2013

---------
- 103.1
======

Note 1: I am STILL curious as to why the Results for the 1st Kedah Blitz Open event which is also a FIDE-rated event is not factored into the calculation of one's NR???

Note 2:  Still missing is the results/points from the 2nd Smart Kids event held on the 1st of May 2013 which only the cHEss pIRATE had participated. Read HERE
The organisers had publicised that the event will be a National Rated event. (Read HERE). Wonder what happened which resulted in the organisers NOT fulfilling their promise.

Was hoping that Perhaps due to "technicalities" the results will only be reflected in this Quarter as per what happened previously to the results of the 2012 RSC Juniors Open & 2nd SK Sri Hartamas Age Group events. However, this is NOT the case. Another case of misrepresentation, I supposed!!??

KALAH.....SUSUN!

2 hallowed words uttered by the CP last night after playing 2 games with me.
- " Kalah............SUSUN!"  whilst walking away towards other distractions with a smirk on his face.

......Aaaaarghhhhh! ...and I used to utter those words all the time - in 2012, at least!
