Coach Faiz & the Kampung Player!

Was on the throne when I heard a knock on the Door...

...Knock! Knock!...."Ayah, Jom Main Chess!".

Been a while since I last played against him...factor in Colombo's 9th Asian Schools C.C. 2013 and my various roles in the Nusantara Leadership Camp (NLC 2013) held at Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta + Capital TV's Research/Scripting & Hosting and D&D Digital Magazine Editing.... it's been more than 3 weeks.

Despite playing white I lost to CP due to a fork move.

Sensing easy meat, hAnA also wanted to play against me.

I was distracted when Faiz started making jokes and didn't see my Rook was in danger. Somehow or rather, I "lost control" of the game when Faiz started to move the pieces and played against hAnA.

Subsequently, position deteriorated very fast & I'd to surrender.
When I asked him - "Faiz, cakap nak jadi coach tapi Ayah still lost! Camana ni?"

His response...whilst Grinning, Shaking His Head & having a Somewhat Condescending Look and having his face in front of my face   - "...IF Kampung Player is a rook and a few pawns  down & bad position...how can Coach Faiz help? "

Everybody was stunned with his reply...and subsequently had a good laugh!
...then he further added - "...Ayah, its not good to laugh...it affects your concentration." Walawey Punye Budak!!!

I thought to myself..emmm....as per Danny Glover in the 80s movie Lethal Weapon - "am getting too old for this Sxxx!". Aaaaarghhhhh!

Event INFO.

I was informed that Amir Faiz bin Amirul aka The CP had qualified for the World Youth Chess Championship 2013 which is to be held in Al-Ain, UAE later this year from 17 to 29 December 2013.

As compared to the recent 9th Asian Schools C.C.2013 in Sri Lanka which was held over 1 week with no free day, the WYCC 2013 will be held over 12 days with only 1 round of classical play being held every day except for one day where 2 rounds will be played. There will be a free day on Christmas day and The Blitz event will be held after the 8th Round.
Have not been informed of the costs involved yet but I'm sure it'll be around the RM10,000 mark if not more.

I would like to appeal for sponsor(s) to finance his trip or, those who can give me leads to potential sponsor(s) to either:-
(1) EMAIL me at amfa177@gmail.com OR,

BLITZ Overview - 9th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2013

U-7 Open, RESULTS
U-11 Girls, RESULTS

The Blitz event was essentially a tale of 2 opposites.
I'd expected both to do if not well at least a decent performance would suffice as both seemed to enjoy blitz events whenever there's one.

In this event, the cHEss pIRATE recorded his best placing of all 3 events he'd participated in the 9th ASCC 2013. Going into the final round, he was playing on Board 2 and was in contention for a medal. However, a lost in the last game to top seed Dev Singh(FIDE 1465) of India and eventual Runners-Up ended that glimmer of hope.

hAnA on the other hand, recorded a below the par performance by finishing with only 2points.
