43rd SELANGOR Open 2016, 1st Classical event for 2016.

( 2nd May, Round 8. Cousins seated next to each other )

1st Classical event for CP in 10 months after a 9-month break since last year's AAG in Singapore. This will be his 2nd participation in the event albeit in the Challengers Section as previously there was only a single event.

Hopefully, he can add to his elo.

CP's Previous Record:
2016 - ??? (Update; 3.5pts. ??/1??. *9yrs*
2014 - (refer HERE ) 3pts. 62nd/73. *7yrs*

MMU Open 2016, 2nd Open Event.

Out of the blue, CP informed me that he wanted to play in the Open event in the 2016 MMU Open instead of the U12 or even U18 categories. This, with the full knowledge of there being no special prizes for primary students unlike the recent 6th PJ Open. Thus, without any hesitations I registered him for the event.

MMU Open 2016 - Results of Open Event.

His 2nd Open event for 2016 netted CP 4 points in 7 rounds, nothing to shout about but at least it's above 50%. Some 'consistency' is there as this is his second 4-pointer in Open events. Hence, with a scientifically 'inappropriate' sample of 2 events, a benchmark of sorts have been established i.e. the expectations or KPI for CP is 4 points in an Open event with 7 rounds played (at the very least in Stonemaster's events).

Just as important if not more is the realisation that his 'tricks' do not work against older opponents. Hopefully, this realisation would spur CP to work harder in his game. A deal of sorts have also been struck for Faiz to play in Open events.

C: 1st CIDB-RTM U12 Open - A Record of Sorts!

( More than 200 boards lined up)

( 13th, 7 wins & 2 losses)

(RM80 cash prize and Goodie Bag)

The 1st CIDB-RTM Open created a record of sorts. It was the first time I'd seen in Malaysia, an event with more than 400 players in a SINGLE category i.e. U12.

Due to the overwhelming number of players, the organisers decided to change the format to 9 rounds instead of 7 rounds as per initial advertisement but with 30 minutes game time in each round. Though the venue itself was OK, the event started later than advertised and there were many complaints on results and  the final rankings for the various categories.

It is also the first time there CP lost twice due to time drop, an occurrence which rarely happens except in blitz. Despite both losses, am not too bothered as he was about to promote in 1 game and was a Queen up in the other game.
