NAG 2016 Begins - Still in Pursuit of a "Jaguh Kampung" !!!

NAG2016 began today at UTP Tronoh, around 10minutes late (35minutes, if the technical briefing which was advertised to start at 9.30AM but instead begun around 10.05AM is taken into account). Though late, it is still much better than the shambles last year in KL and I'm glad MCF did not continue with the same Chief Arbiter for this edition.

Considering the suitability of the venue and the fact that 8rounds is played over 3 days, it is such a shame that the event is not a FIDE-rated event even though RM50 is collected per player and taking cognisance of the fact that FIDE does not charge any fees for Rapid events. Perhaps the Pursuit of National Ratings (issued quarterly as compare to FIDE's monthly release or the "lumping" of all categories into 1 ratings list compared to FIDE's 3 separate categories of classical, rapid and blitz) by certain quarters which holds no value whatsoever out of Malaysia is part of the reason(s) for the "Jaguh Kampung" mentality in some chess players or even its officials???

Am hoping that in the near future the NAG and MSSM competitions are FIDE-rated rather than NR. After all, we would like to see our kids have an International Ratings in chess rather than a NR considering the amount each player spends when participating in NAG.
